Carbon fiber reinforced polymers(CFRPs) are vulnerable to impact. Therefore, it is important to apply a structural health monitoring(SHM) system capable of detecting impact damage. In actual operating environments, impacts often occur at oblique angles to the surface, making it necessary to evaluate the damage detection performance of SHM systems under oblique impact conditions. In this study, an oblique impact test fixture was fabricated, and performance evaluation tests were conducted for an SHM system using a flexible grid sensor to detect damage under oblique impacts. The experimental results demonstrated that the area of the elliptical penetration damage increased with increasing impact angle. In addition, the proposed SHM system effectively estimated the penetration damage area with a maximum error of 11.7%.
